Recent Runs

May 22nd

Atlanta, GA

I stayed in Atlanta with my mom and brother to watch my brother play soccer. I'm so excited that my mom loves to run now because it's nice to have an accountability partner. We woke up early to run at 9 around the hotel. We were fortunate that there was a side walk that went away from the shopping centers surrounding the hotel. It was such a refreshing run. I went about 4.5 miles. Not too far but just enough to get the day started on the right foot.

May 24th

Athens, GA

Back in Athens and excited to run my familiar routes again. I took some days off from running here and I think my mind needed it. It was in a rut and thought that I was fatigued, but I think that I was just tired of running the same courses over and over again. I woke up early before work to get this run in. It wasn't too hot yet but I broke a great sweat. Back in the game.

May 25th

Athens, GA

Walked. Played racquetball. Climbed/Slack-lined. Then ended with a trail run. I'd say it was a good day.

May 18th

Athens, Ga

Distance: 7 miles

Got off work. Ate. Checked about everything there is to check online. Took a nap. Did I have plenty of time to run today? yes. Did I want to? no. Why? I have no idea. I love to run, so why is it so hard to just walk out the door sometimes? Finally, it’s 5 pm and I walk out the door with my i-pod (I needed something to motivate me). First mile or so, achey heel. I round the corner after mile 2 and I’m in the groove. I absolutely love this; sometimes making the decision to walk out the door is the hardest part.

May 19th

Athens

7.5 miles

Ran one of my favorite routes in Athens. Down Milledge with a loop around UGA’s entire campus. It was nice running this one during the summer because the sidewalks are clear of students hurrying to class. I can enjoy the loop without any obstacles. I felt great today, but the hill at the end got me. They definitely don’t get any easier.

May 20th

Athens

4.5 miles

It’s Friday!!! Got off work and caught up with one of my best friends on the phone. Man, do I miss her. Chilled for a bit. Then decided to go on a short run. My grandmother told me to wait and run when it’s cooler. I told her I like being hot and I like to sweat. She laughed. It was 91 degrees and humid. Ahh, here you are summer. I was beginning to get used to the cooler weather. My legs were tired today. Tomorrow will be an off day for sure.

Healing Power

Athens

Distance: 6 miles

Today’s run was powerful. Some runs are easier than others, and this was just one of those runs. I seemed to glide effortlessly through Athens, enjoying the abnormally cool air. After a few spiritually tough and empty weeks, I felt the Lord begin to heal me and fill the holes.

May 15th

Athens, Ga

Distance: 6 miles

Today was a lazy kind of day. I woke up, went to church, read, took a nap, and ran. After I woke up from my nap it took me a while to get going but it didn’t really matter because I had all the time in the world. On my run I couldn’t decide if I wanted to go fast or slow, but that didn’t really matter either. Once I started picking up the pace I actually slowed myself down a little bit. My mind wasn’t quite ready for a quick paced jog. I soaked in my surroundings as I ran through campus. The weather was pleasant (about 71) and the wind wasn’t too much. I enjoyed my Sunday jog just as much as an old person probably enjoys his or her Sunday drive.

May 16th

Athens, Ga

Distance: 8 miles

Today was my last day of soccer enrichment classes at Athens Academy, which means that it was probably the last day that I would be able to run there. I checked the weather frequently this morning in hopes that it wasn’t going to rain too hard on my journey. About 45 minutes before I needed to leave, I checked and there was a break in the weather. I really like this run partially because it’s not an easy one. There are a lot of hills and I have to run in tall grass for the majority of it. The run there was nothing special, but the run back was glorious. It rained and the smell of the plants and asphalt when it first starts raining is great. I don’t really know how to describe it but it reminds me of summer afternoon showers. When I got back from the run I was exhausted. A feeling that I don’t think I will ever get tired of.

May 14th

athens
7.5 miles

i left my house around 7:30 to run as the sun set over the classic city. graduation is over, students are leaving, and all of a sudden my city is calm. i crossed intersections and roads with no traffic and swiftly ran down roads without seeing a car pass by. it was different but good. i had previously taken two days off. the last two days had been full of work and hanging out with friends before our dreaded good-byes. my legs felt fresh and i felt like i was moving quicker than usual. i'm not one to feel the pain of good-byes right away. they are something that i put off until reality sinks in. during my run i thought about how our friendships just happen. they fall into place and then it's up to us to work to maintain and intentionally get to know the people who we care about. i've grown to love the classic city and i've only been here for 7 1/2 months. it's funny to think that a place where roots are deep, is a place full of temporary residents. not many of the students here will make it their home after school. i'm pretty sure i won't be living here after i'm finished with grad school but you never know. i'm so thankful that i've gotten the chance to live here temporarily because all of it's blessings will leave permanent impacts.

Running with Friends

May 9th
athens
5 miles

Run with Couper. We got a glimpse of what summer will be like. Humid and hot. It was about 90 degrees out but we kept a good pace and my legs felt good. I haven't had company in a while and it makes the run go by so much faster.

Great run with Chase. When I run with Chase it turns into an adventure. We climb things, jump over objects, and sometimes run places we're not supposed to run. It's fun and always keeps me on my toes. We ran down a great trail near the power plant after we were told that we couldn't be back there. Totally worth it. I was exhausted afterwards and I haven't felt that tired in a while. Love it :)

Another run with Chase. I'm so glad that we are able to spend time together before summer. We got ambitious and decided to run to the botanical gardens from my house. We did a small loop in the botans after we realized just how far out there it was. It's definitely not an easy run to get out there but it was fun and the trails are amazing out there. On the way back we hit dusk (my favorite time of day). So nostalgic. And again, I am exhausted.

508.36 miles and counting

This year I have run 506.36 miles give or take a little. I'd say it's about time to get some new shoes.

As I look back at my running log I realize just how long it's been since I last posted. I don't remember a lot of these runs. I don't know why I haven't been blogging. I have plenty of time because I'm done with school, but for some reason I just can't sit down I write out my thoughts. Apparently, I went downtown on this run. It was a morning run and in my notes I wrote 'peaceful.'

Big loop around campus. Absolutely love this run; it never gets old.

I don't haven anything written down but the distance.

May 7th

Friends are graduating so there has been some great hang out time. After an afternoon full of slack lining and grilling out, I went on a night jog down lumpkin, prince, and milledge. The weather was unbelievable and I couldn't stop thinking about how blessed I am.

May 8th

Haven't been on the trails in a while. Needed some nature to put a boost in these tired legs. The day was beautiful. Just what I needed.

May 1st

Big loop around campus. Looking back at my log, this run was tough. My legs were fatigued. This is my body telling me that I will take tomorrow off.
