Twilight is finally here!!!!! I can't wait. I've only heard wonderful things about the race. 66 degrees outside and I decided to go for a morning run to scope out what's going on downtown. They were already blocking off roads downtown and I passed so many bikers warming up for the race. I feel like runners have a strange connection to bikers. We're both a little crazy for pushing our bodies the way that we do. Maybe one day I will be come a biker as well.
One thing I love about running in the morning is seeing all of the serious runners. They come out in the morning and knock out tons of miles. When I run in the morning, I some how feel serious as well, but I still can't give up my late runs. I'm not disciplined enough to wake up early every morning to do this... not yet at least. I passed a guy that I see running a lot. He's legit. We always smile and say good morning when we see each other. Little does he know that he motivates me to keep going.

A Series of Fortunate Runs

I got to go home for my best friend's wedding shower and for Easter with the family. It was such a great weekend. On the way home with Maggie, I had already planned to run my favorite route down South Harrington and through Sea Palms. The first run was so good, I had to run it two more times.

After a long day at the beach, I laced up for a late afternoon run around 5. I forgot how much I loved the smell of the marsh and salt water. I run to the tip of South Harrington just to smell the salt air. Then I make a loop through Sea Palms which is covered with massive live oaks. Sweaty and salty from my run on top of sweat and salt from the beach makes for such a great run.

Great news. My mom has decided to become a runner and this time she is serious. In the past she has expressed interest in running but it won't last long. We ran the first mile and a half of the run together and then I branched out to run some more miles. It makes me so happy to know that I have another running partner and it happens to be my best friend. Welcome to the wonderful world of running, Dottie.

Great run downtown in the morning. I absolutely love running downtown in the morning because not that many people are out. Just me, trucks being unloaded, and a few people trying to get to work on time. The air is crisp.

Trail run

april 18th
8 miles

Starting a new Monday tradition by running to my enrichment classes at Athens Academy. It's the perfect change of scenery. I run quickly there to make sure that I'm on time, and I run leisurely back because I don't have anywhere to be. Great balance with some soccer in between. Two things that I love.

Ran in the quiet residential section of athens. The houses are precious! It makes me want to stay in athens and live in a cute house every semester. Then I hit Milledge to add a few more miles. 76 degrees and sunny :)

Trail run during sunset. Couldn't have picked a better time to run today. It was humid all day so right when the sun was setting was perfect. The rays in between the tree leaves sooth my soul.

Trails again. This run made me realize that I need to take a day off soon. St. Simons tomorrow. Couldn't be more excited to see friends and family. Also, can't wait for a night time golf course run... favorite.

distance: 4.5

Yesterday, was the Cooper River Bridge run in Charleston. I was planning on running 10K in honor of a race that is dear to my heart, but I ended up playing pick-up soccer will some people for about an hour an a half. No one said getting old was going to be easy. I am about 4 months out from my official soccer career. You'd think I would be fine to play some friendly games every now and them. Well, I woke up this morning with soreness all over. I don't even know where to begin to tell you where it was because that would be pointless. I decided to take a short and slow jog through the trails. A little painful, but definitely worth it. It was such a gorgeous day outside that I would have been mad at myself if I didn't do anything outside. Some people can just be outside to enjoy the day, and I can too, but I feel as though something is missing if I don't include running into my daily activities. Soreness won't stop me, if anything it gives me an excuse to run slower and take in my surroundings.

Ahh, the mid-morning run. You see, there is the early morning run before work or class, the afternoon run for those who get out of class early, and the evening run for the late workers or night-owls. The mid-morning run is unique because, well, not that many people are running at 10 am. I can because I'm in this weird phase in my life called grad student without a "real job". My classes don't meet during the week and I can request hours at Chick-fil-a whenever I please. Sometimes I wonder what I'm doing with my life, but I am thankful that my schedule does permit the mid-morning run. I can get up, eat a good break-fast, read, and then meander out the door. Everyone is already in the swing of things and no one really notices me as I run to the trails. The run was an introvert's delight. Reflecting, smelling the newly boomed flowers, taking in the scenery. It was a pleasant start to someone's day that doesn't actually start until 1:30. I must take advantage of this while I can. I know it won't last forever, but it's fun while it lasts.

march 30th

athens. distance: 7.5

great loop around campus. it was supposed to rain all day, but the sun decided to come out to play in the afternoon. after so much rain everything was so lush and green. i vividly remember hitting a portion of east campus rd and thinking that i never want to take advantage of being able to do this. i feel alive when i run and for that i am so thankful.

march 31st

athens. distance: 4.26

ran with couper this morning despite the fact that it was misting outside. we said that we were going to try to run today, and when i tell someone that i will run with them... i'm going to do it unless the weather is absurd. i don't know how couper felt about it when i texted him at 8:30 telling him that we were in the clear. he probably went to bed thinking that it was going to be rainy, but i ain't scared of rain. anyways, it was a good run. nice to have the company of a great friend.

work. nap. must run.
work was crazy to say the least. i took a nap (which i never do). and i woke up feeling quite grumpy. i knew exactly what i needed and it was a good thing because i had been thinking about this run all day. it was perfect weather and i wasn't going to pass it up. the first half mile was all a blur. maybe i was still half asleep, but once i hit the first mile it was smooth sailing. just can't get enough, i tell you.
