Yesterday, was the Cooper River Bridge run in Charleston. I was planning on running 10K in honor of a race that is dear to my heart, but I ended up playing pick-up soccer will some people for about an hour an a half. No one said getting old was going to be easy. I am about 4 months out from my official soccer career. You'd think I would be fine to play some friendly games every now and them. Well, I woke up this morning with soreness all over. I don't even know where to begin to tell you where it was because that would be pointless. I decided to take a short and slow jog through the trails. A little painful, but definitely worth it. It was such a gorgeous day outside that I would have been mad at myself if I didn't do anything outside. Some people can just be outside to enjoy the day, and I can too, but I feel as though something is missing if I don't include running into my daily activities. Soreness won't stop me, if anything it gives me an excuse to run slower and take in my surroundings.

Ahh, the mid-morning run. You see, there is the early morning run before work or class, the afternoon run for those who get out of class early, and the evening run for the late workers or night-owls. The mid-morning run is unique because, well, not that many people are running at 10 am. I can because I'm in this weird phase in my life called grad student without a "real job". My classes don't meet during the week and I can request hours at Chick-fil-a whenever I please. Sometimes I wonder what I'm doing with my life, but I am thankful that my schedule does permit the mid-morning run. I can get up, eat a good break-fast, read, and then meander out the door. Everyone is already in the swing of things and no one really notices me as I run to the trails. The run was an introvert's delight. Reflecting, smelling the newly boomed flowers, taking in the scenery. It was a pleasant start to someone's day that doesn't actually start until 1:30. I must take advantage of this while I can. I know it won't last forever, but it's fun while it lasts.
